           Based on student feedback and popular demand, the Department of Biochemistry at Sri Venkateswara College is returning with its annual Ideathon event "MindSpar 3.0 - Adding New Dimensions" in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology, Faridabad, Haryana. 

        MindSpar 3.0 is a unique ideathon competition that promotes creative thinking, innovation and entrepreneurship skills in students.  Novel ideas are invited from undergraduate and postgraduate students. This time the event will be largely online and hence participation is open to UG and PG students across India. Current PhD students are also encouraged to participate.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Wellcome Trust Senior Fellow – Dr. Geeta Trilok-Kumar, Institute of Home Economics

 
             Dr. Geeta Trilok-Kumar, teacher in Department of Biochemistry, IHE College, who is currently the Director of the College, won Wellcome Trust-DBT senior fellowship in Public Health for 5 years from 2018-23.   

Title of her project : "To improve understanding of interactions among intra- uterine growth retardation, early growth, gut permeability, body fat and risk of chronic disease in low-birth weight children"

Quantum of funding: Rs. 4.5 crores

Collaborators : (1) Sitaram Institute of Science and Technology, Delhi (2) London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London.

Training built in for (1) Ultrasound at MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine; (2) Exercise physiology at Department of Pediatric and International Health at University of Copenhagen, Denmark.
 

Dr. Trilok-Kumar is following a cohort of low birth-weight term infants who were enrolled between 2007-2010 and are 9-11 years old now. She is trying to understand how being born low birth weight and being fed plenty as a result of changing nutrition transition increases their risk of chronic disease in later life. The concept is based on DoHaD  hypothesis.

            Visit by students and teachers of Biochemistry Department of Shaheed Rajguru College - 30th March 2019.  Students were oriented about the activities of the department by Faculties followed by visits to various Research Laboratories and Central Instrumentation Facility
