Dr. Garima Khare is working as an Assistant Professor at Department of Biochemistry since November 2014. She completed her Ph.D. from Department of Biochemistry, University of Delhi South Campus in January 2012.  She is a recipient of the prestigious Innovative Young Biotechnologists Award of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in 2013.

She has published 24 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and 4 book chapters.  She has more than 600 citations for her published articles, h-index of 14 and i10-index of 18.  She is the recipient of various research grants from funding agencies. She has peer reviewed several manuscripts in international journals.  She is guiding a number of Ph.D. and M.Sc. students for research.

Her research efforts are focused in the area of Tuberculosis primarily pertaining to the identification of novel inhibitors against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis, which can be developed into potent drugs against TB. Her laboratory is also dedicated towards the understanding of host-pathogen interactions involved in TB pathogenesis and to delineate the role of important mycobacterial genes in the pathogenesis and growth of the pathogen in the host by developing gene knockout mutants and correlating the loss of gene function with the establishment and progression of the disease and ability of the mutant pathogen to survive in the host. Additionally, her laboratory is also working to understand the persistence and drug unresponsiveness of Mycobacterium tuberculosis inside unconventional niches such as Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Dr. Khare is the Incharge of the BSL3/ABSL3 facility for TB research at UDSC. This facility is accessible to various TB investigators for their research work. She is also involved in conducting training programmes and courses for BSL3 training and handling practices for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is dedicated towards the goal of skill development and increasing the repertoire of quality manpower working with pathogenic organisms in such containment facilities.

Apart from her academic and research interests, she has varied interests including art, poetry, dance and painting.
